UNRAVELING THE NEXUS OF STUDENT MOTIVATION AND ANXIETY IN ENGLISH SPEAKING

The purpose of this qualitative study is to delve into the intricate relationship between students’ motivation in learning English and their anxiety levels during speaking performances. Utilizing a qualitative research approach, the study centers on first-semester students enrolled in the English Education Department. The total population comprises 48 students, from which a purposive sample of 12 students was selected. Data collection methods include observation and the distribution of questionnaires. Analysis of the data entails qualitative interpretation rather than statistical calculations. Through thorough examination of the gathered qualitative data, patterns, themes, and relationships between students’ motivation and anxiety levels in speaking performances will be explored. The study aims to provide rich insights into the subjective experiences and perceptions of students in relation to their motivation and anxiety in English speaking contexts, thus contributing to a deeper understanding of the phenomenon.
