MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION VALUES IN SOCIETY: AN ETHNOEDUCATIONAL APPROACH

Indonesia is a country that has a variety of cultures and customs attached to various ethnicities, racial cultures and multiple religions. So multicultural education is needed, namely education that respects differences, so that it does not become a source of conflict and division. This attitude of mutual tolerance will create dynamic diversity, cultural richness which becomes the nation's identity and is worth preserving. In multicultural education, every civilization and culture in an equal and equal position. One of the important goals of the multicultural education concept is to help students gain knowledge and respect other people of different ethnicities, cultures and personality values. Multicultural education has 4 (four) values, namely the value of equality, the value of tolerance, the value of democracy, and the value of pluralism. The values above have views that complement each other in addressing multiculturalism education. Thus, multicultural education is education that places emphasis on the process of cultivating a way of life that is mutually respectful, sincere and tolerant of cultural diversity living in a society with a high level of plurality.
