Abstract

This article examines the theory of emanation (al-faidh) developed by Muslim philosophers such as Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina and its implications for the concept of creation in Islamic creed. Through a historical-philosophical approach, this research analyzes how the Neo-Platonic con-cept of emanation was harmonized with the doctrine of creation from noth-ingness (creatio ex nihilo) in Islamic theology. The results show an intellec-tual tension between the theory of emanation, which implies the eternity of the universe, and the orthodox Islamic doctrine of temporal creation. Nev-ertheless, some philosophers successfully achieved a synthesis by pro-posing a gradual creation model that maintains Allah's oneness and tran-scendence while explaining the complexity of creation. In conclusion, the theory of emanation has enriched Islamic intellectual discourse on crea-tion, although it remains a subject of theological controversy throughout the history of Islamic thought.
