Abstract

This study examines the role of human beings as caliphs (vicegerents) in maintaining environmental preservation from the perspective of the re-nowned exegesis, Tafsir Al-Munir, by Wahbah Al-Zuhaili. The research explores three key aspects: The Concept of Khilafah and its Environmental Dimensions, Quranic Injunctions on Environmental Preservation, and Practical Implications and Contemporary Challenges. Through a compre-hensive analysis of Quranic verses and their interpretations in Al-Munir, the study elucidates the sacred trust bestowed upon humans as stewards of the earth, mandated to manage its resources sustainably and preserve its ecological balance. It highlights the Quranic emphasis on environmental protection, moderation in resource utilization, and the moral responsibility to safeguard the natural world. Furthermore, the research addresses the practical implications of this role in the contemporary context, including the challenges posed by climate change, pollution, and unsustainable practic-es. It underscores the need for a holistic and proactive approach, encom-passing individual efforts, collective action, policy implementation, and a paradigm shift in human attitudes and behaviors towards a more harmoni-ous coexistence with the environment.
