This study examines the implementation of the Istiqlal spirit at As'adiyah Islamic University of Sengkang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The concept of Istiqlal (independence) represents a fundamental Islamic value empha-sizing self-reliance, institutional autonomy, and intellectual freedom while maintaining religious authenticity. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, this research explores how the university incorporates the Istiqlal spirit into its educational philosophy, curriculum development, institutional governance, and community engagement. Findings indicate that As'adiyah University has successfully integrated Istiqlal principles through its financial self-sufficiency model, distinctive pedagogical approach combining traditional Islamic knowledge with modern disciplines, autonomous governance struc-ture balanced with community participation, and comprehensive communi-ty development programs. The study contributes to understanding how Islamic higher education institutions can preserve religious values while achieving institutional independence and academic excellence in the con-temporary educational landscape.
