Abstract

This study examines the ability of first-semester students in the Arabic Language Education Study Program at As'adiyah Islamic University Sengkang to retell Islamic civilization history based on their reading expe-riences. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observation techniques, this research involved 30 students from the 2024 academic year. The findings reveal that students demon-strate varying levels of proficiency in retelling Islamic history, with chal-lenges primarily stemming from language barriers, lack of prior historical knowledge, and difficulties in critical text analysis. However, students who engaged in regular reading practices and participated in collaborative learning activities showed significant improvements in their retelling abili-ties. This research highlights the importance of integrating specialized reading strategies and multimedia resources in Arabic language education to enhance students' historical comprehension and narrative skills. The study contributes to the understanding of how reading experiences shape historical literacy among Arabic language students and offers pedagogical implications for curriculum development in Islamic studies.
